Frequently Asked Questions for Participants!

These are some of the most asked questions. Please take a look if yours is here! If not, please feel free to contact Sylvie or Mariko

Q: What is the cost and final date for participating in the 2010 GWAA?
A: The cost is $20 and the final date to return your fee and signed agreement is November 7, 2010.

Q:What do I get in return for my $20 fee?
A: The $20 fee will cover the printing of signs, studio posters, laminating costs, oversized banners for a sandwich board a couple trips to Nanaimo for promotional and supply retrieving purposes, a small amount of print add ($$$) and online advertising (less$$$). Also, this money will go towards the designing, printing and distribution of studio locations. Of course there will be other costs that will be incurred, but please do take note that all the organizers of this event are donating all their time for no exchange of money.

Q: If I am a business can I show my support for GWAA?
A: You certainly can in one or two ways. The first is to have your website listed on our blog for $10. The second is to donate $50 and that will get you a print ad on the back of the map. (Sylvie and Mariko will be distributing an email with details shortly). You may use that ad to promote yourselves and, if you wish, offer a discount to customers on the day of GWAA!

Q: Are you affiliated with the Gabriola Arts Council?
A: No, we are not.

Q: Where can I drop off my fee and signed agreement?
A: You can drop them off at Feedlot Studios (800 Valli Place) or Jupiter Ranch On Shaw just off of South Rd.) If there is no one home you can leave your agreement and check (please don't leave cash on if you are dropping it off) in the drop box provided. It will be marked by  GWAA  signage.

Q:If we are GAC member can we use the Paypal system set up in place?
A: This is the response we received from GAC:

"Because there is no-one manning the virtual terminal 24/7, artists won’t be able to get instant authorization. BUT….they CAN accept Visa and Mastercard if they believe that the authorization WILL eventually go through – but they take the chance that when we eventually process it, it will be declined. If they trust the people giving the credit card info they can still accept it and just have me process the card later. Payment will come within 21 days of me processing the card."

In other words, you, the artists will have to be in charge and responsible for handling your own payments including gathering all information such as signatures and expiry dates, etc. Please consult with your Paypal agreement with GAC if you plan to collect payment via that route.

GWAA will not  be help responsible for any payments gone wrong credit, check or otherwise.
Q: How do I get my name and website listed on the GWAA blog?
A:You can email either Sylvie or Mariko and  they will post ONE link for you. Also, we will be reviewing all the submitted agreements and entering your website or blog that way. If it does not link properly simply let us know and we will happily correct it.

Q: How can I help out?
A: Thanks for asking! You can help out by sending the press release and invite jpeg to all your colleagues, friends and family members! Do so via email lists, snail mail. If you are venturing into Nanaimo, please print and post the jpeg poster/signage in your favorite coffee shop, community venue or high traffic area. We would love to see as many as possible posted around the island, but what the heck, let's let the rest of the world know!

Q: I have some ideas for online advertising or I have a "friend" that can help get the word out...
A: Have them contact Sylvie or Mariko and we will get them the information we need. That said, our budget is very small so please, if the price looks to high we will sadly have to pass.
